WHAT IF I'M NOT EXPERIENCED IN YOGA, IS THIS RETREAT STILL FOR ME?

YUSUTRA Retreats are for all levels of yogis.

All our Yoga teachers are qualified through well respected schools of yoga, like The British Wheel of Yoga, Yogacampus and TriYoga. All the training courses have taken up to two years to complete and everyone has at least 7 years' teaching practice. Most of our teachers are also qualified in complementary practices.

We have maximum of 12 students in any class as we feel that this is the only way to give every client the attention they deserve. All the equipment you need is provided.

One of the reasons we like to keep the number of guests so small is to better personalize the classes and yoga attention placed on each person. After seeing where each guest is in their yoga practice and level, the classes can be given on what best suits the group. Plus, there is a range of styles and levels taught throughout the retreat so you can choose the classes which best suit you. The most "advanced" yogi are those who are honest and true with where they are physically and mentally - which can mean holding back and taking it easy when you need rather than over pushing yourself to twist into that advanced pose.

CAN I BRING A FRIEND/PARTNER WHO DOESN'T WANT TO PARTICIPATE IN THE YOGA CLASSES?

Absolutely! Non-participants are always welcome. All classes are voluntary and there is always plenty of activities (or total relaxation) that can be enjoyed in place of one of the yoga classes.

Benefits of yoga include:

  • Improved efficiency of lungs and cardio-vascular system
  • Improved posture, flexibility and strength
  • Improved concentration
  • Enhanced feeling of well-being
  • Better quality of sleep
  • Reduction of anxiety and depression

DO I HAVE TO TAKE EVERY YOGA CLASS DURING THE WEEK?

Again, all classes (and activities) are completely voluntary. I'll say to you that the retreat weeks are for you, whatever you need. So if you need to take it easy one morning, then by all means, do what you need physically and mentally.

WHAT TYPE OF YOGA CLASSES ARE OFFERED, AND WHAT LEVELS ARE WELCOME?

This is YOUR RETREAT so you're encouraged to take the time you need, go at your own speed, and try and let go - whether that means diving in deep into the morning and evening classes for the week, or maybe it means needing to rest one day instead. There are usually a big variety of levels and we love that you can attend and participate without feeling any pressure. That said, for a basic overview, we do a general vinyasa flow in the mornings about 60-75m and enjoy an evening class which is more restorative or themed (hips, heart-openers) for around 40m. There are various meditation times throughout the week with about 15m guidance of various methods and encouragement to take any free-time to explore further on your own if you wish.

WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?

Acupuncture is the insertion of hair-thin needles into the body at specific points shown as effective in the treatment of specific health problems. These points have been mapped by the Chinese over a period of two thousand years.

Generally, acupuncture does not hurt. Some people feel the needles as they go in, and some people feel nothing. Acupuncture needles are solid needles, not hollow like hypodermic needles, and they are much, much thinner - about the diameter of a thick human hair. During your consultation I'll be happy to answer any questions and discuss with you how acupuncture may benefit you.

HOW DOES ACUPUNCTURE WORK?

Traditional acupuncture is based on ancient Chinese theories of the flow of Qi (Energy) and Xue (Blood) through distinct meridians or pathways that cover the body somewhat like the nerves and blood vessels do. According to ancient theory, acupuncture allows Qi to flow to areas where it is deficient and away from where it is in Excess. In this way, acupuncture regulates and restores the harmonious energetic balance of the body. In Chinese there is a saying, "There is no pain if there is free flow; if there is pain, there is no free flow."

IS THERE ANYTHING I NEED TO DO WHILE RECEIVING ACUPUNCTURE?

Relax. There is no need to be frightened. Ask Corinne any questions you have along the way so that you can get the most benefit from the treatment.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER TREATMENT?

Patients often experience the most dramatic results in the first treatment. Some patients experience an immediate total or partial relief of their pain or other symptoms. This relief may last or some pain may return. In a few cases, there may be no immediate relief only to notice the pain diminish over the next couple of days. Generally, you should expect to feel better.

YUSUTRA is much more than just ASANAS (the physical movements of yoga) and MERIDIANS (acupuncture points channels). Hopefully it can be about finding something, letting something go, gaining balance in life, and enjoying many aspects of the holiday - from the authentic local cuisine, daytrips, a beautiful culture, and new friends!
